Under the Ice   Site-specific video installation

  • France Dubois Nuit Blanche Montreal Under the Ice

Nuit Blanche, Montreal, 2009

Dimensions : 3 m x 4 m - PAL Video, Colour

Metro, mall, hall, corridor, pedestrians unconsciously follow the underground nervous pace.
A blue light in a staircase : a giant aquarium or a passageway to Captain Nemo’s world, a landing shows a submarine ambience. Sharks seemingly glide across the interval between us and the city surface, covered with ice.
The installation suggests a metaphorical and paradoxical vision of the underground city : a world made of slowness and silence ; a perculiar ecosystem, colonized by mythological creatures, both fascinating and terrifying.

Commissioned by Art Souterrain for Montreal All-nighter.
